Description

The annual Science Summit showcases the scientific work conducted by Los Angeles County Department of Public Health workforce members. Throughout the day, the Department’s public health professional staff will share and learn from each other about evidence based public health practices and the scientific research done within the Department and with partners.

This year marks the eighth annual Science Summit. The theme of this year’s conference is “Science and Data for Action.” We curated speakers from an array of programs within the Department and highlighted work that focuses on innovative uses of data and evidence based practices to address current public health issues within Los Angeles County. An excellent example would be the Community Health Improvement Plan, which was developed using data and analysis from the Community Health Assessment. By using data and science to direct public action, our Department is able to more effectively accomplish our mission, “To protect health, prevent disease and injury, and promote health and well-being for everyone in Los Angeles County.”

The Science Summit supports our Department as the “Principal Community Health Strategist” by informing our workforce and maintaining ourselves as a trusted source of information driven by science and data. As we are faced with a complex health environment and the proliferation of misinformation, science and reliable data are essential to public health.

We hope that you find the Science Summit informative and worthwhile.
